The international literature links mining booms with social disruption. rapid economic and population growth that brings increases urban crime problems. But insufficient attention has been paid to the reverse situation: disruption can accompany closure of a mine. We compare statistics for four categories small city, known in South Africa as “intermediate city municipalities,” from 2009 2018. Contrary findings studies, we find those where was decline had some highest rates, particularly category sexual offences, whereas growing lowest.
